Sprint's PC5740 Wireless Internet Card

So if you ever travel around the country and you're lucky enough to have a laptop at your disposal, there might be times when you'd like to perhaps check your email, brag about where you're going to your online buddies, transfer money, or if you're like my boss who moves around a lot, get a lot of work done while getting to his desired destination. Most of the list above requires the use of an Internet connection. Sure mobile carriers have come out with PCMCIA cards for modern laptops boasting "broadband" download speeds, but the question is, will this gadget live up to the wear and tear of everyday use while still performing its job? We sent the Sprint PC5740 card out around the United States with our Circulation Manager (he's the guy that's in charge of putting the U. Magazine out on campuses...oh and from here on out he'll be called the CM) and he came back with positive results.

We distribute our magazine to over a 125 schools across the country, so our CM is constantly on the move. We outfitted his laptop with this connection card and he has had no complaints. With average speeds of about 500kb/s to up to 2mb/s download speeds, this card is phenomenal. It is amazing that you can surf the Net while driving through virtually anywhere (although, just like cell phones, the rate might suffer or be lost completely because of mountains, or other interference). You can check your email in a cheapo motel, even stream video like you would normally at home. Our CM was in constant contact with us giving us peace of mind that he was safe on the road.

Measuring only about 4.8" x 2.1" x .4" and weighing 1.5oz, this $230 connection piece comes with a great incentive from Sprint. Sign up with a new 2-year service plan receive a $150.00 instant savings, and also a $30.00 mail-in-rebate. This gets you the card for $50.00. And with $60.00/month for unlimited access, it also works out great for people that don't want to pay per-use charges. A real steal and absolute must for anyone on the go. Other cell phone providers also get you a similar deal, so it really is up to do you to decide which one to go with and what card to use. We just decided to write about this one and we give it our highest rating: 5/5 Us. 5/5 Us
