HYmini
Review by: Kaustav Acharya

The revolution towards more environmentally friendly, aka ‘greener’ devices is very much a reality. Our world demands a ton of energy and while most of us take it for granted, the R&D development of HYmini have developed a ‘hybrid’ device for consumers to charge their electronic devices. What this means is that one has the option of charging the device using the conventional AC outlet, or via the available solar panel and/or fan. The attached fan works as a turbine turning the energy from the wind moving the blades into electricity. It’s very similar to the larger facilities that use it to power residential/commercial electrical grids.

Keeping in line with the ‘green’ thinking mentality, the miniSolar accessory panels are encased in recycled cardboard. Up to four can be attached to the HYmini for maximum charge. Arthur Huang, developer of the product and now professor describes the design as part of the “golden ratio” theory dating back to the Renaissance. The theory essentially exemplifies simplistic and aesthetically pleasing geometric designs.

The white device pictured here (our review unit was a chic black) comes with a multitude of adapters for any device and can charge any device pretty quickly. It’s well designed, compact, and very robust. This is a must have for any disaster kit or handy to have if you run out of conventional power. When all else fails it’s nice to see that Mother Nature can keep you safe. The only thing that we would ask them to include is an iPod adapter.
