An interesting device for
sure, three of our staffers tried it out and we all
felt the same way. Very unique and great in theory,
but kind of weird in actual use. This water-resistant,
dirt and dust proof keyboard’s keys are a little
small and the flexible rubber material is strange to
type on. Also, the keyboard had a few quirks that made
easy typing hard. Instead of one long Shift key underneath
Caps Lock, it was two small Shift keys and there was
an extra Space key directly next to the long, normal
Space key. This normally shouldn’t have been a
problem, but Adesso was strictly thinking PC users when
they designed this board. That is our Apple key, a key
imperative to Mac users like the Control Key is PC users. |
While
the instructions give me requirements for Windows Vista,
XP, 2000, Me and 98SE, but my trusty Mac Powerbook G4
picked the keyboard up in an instant. I just couldn’t
copy and paste anything or use my “hot keys”
with it. So I quickly gave up, passed it on and pondered.
The keyboard was cool, it rolls up and can fit in a
backpack, it’ll never crack in two, but where
would I actually need to take it? I have a laptop to
take with me and it has it’s own keyboard. It
comes with a PS/2 converter, so I guess I could take
my old ‘95 hard drive and monitor camping, but...
It wasn’t until I did a little research and went
to their website at www.adesso.com that that “motor
boat” struck me as a good place to use this keyboard.
What Adesso does have it some interesting other products,
like touch sensitive tablets that will pick up your
class notes, or a tablet that works with Adobe’s
Elements to color and draw with. They also make 3-button,
laser mice and USB Illuminated mice that are also some
unusual finds. So check out their website at www.adesso.com
and email me at stephanie@colleges.com if you can think
of anywhere else you would take this keyboard. Happy
typing!
