Introduction to AVID, designed to provide the essential skills for mechanics of editing 30fps projects using AVID Xpress DV. Must be taken in conjunction with Editing 1.

Cinematography 1
Introduction to the craft of Cinematography covering an overview of composition, light and color, lighting, continuity, gripping and gaffing.

Directing 1
Introduction to directing for film and video covering an overview of the functions of the director and the director's interaction with other production departments.
(eight 2.5 hour classes)
Editing 1
Introduction to the basic principles of the aesthetics of editing for film and video and the editor's role as storyteller. Must be taken in conjunction with AVID 1.

Film Gym
Workshop atmosphere class with practical hands on application of capturing images and sound on digital videotape and editing same for final presentation. Several brief shooting projects are assigned throughout the course.

Hands - On 1
Workshop atmosphere class providing overview and discussion on the process of creating motion pictures beginning with how a film is conceived and continuing through the pre-production, production and post-production processes. This course is supplemented by practical filming and sound stage exercises.

Producing 1
Introduction to producing covering both creative and line producing, with an overview of the positions and functions of the producing staff.

Production Design 1
Introduction to production design and how it complements the overall mood and feel of the motion picture, including the interaction between the art department and other departments to realize the overall atmosphere of the film.

Story
Analysis of story structure, plot and characters, the essentials of the screenplay.

Sound Design 1
Introduction to sound design covering both the mechanics of sound gathering in the studio and on location as well as discussions on the art of "foley", the importance of music in character and plot advancement and how sound affects the overall mood and feel of the motion picture.
